Oakland, CA to Gallup, NM
955 mi, 15 hrs
After a farewell book club last night, where we set a record for the least time that we discussed the book, Shannon and I got up early to as far as we could towards Boulder, CO. Unfortunately, I-80, the most direct route, was closed due to 10 feet (seriously) of snow. So we started out on the southern route, I-5 to I-40 to I-25 or Bakersfield, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Denver, Boulder.
Of course, it was storming in Oakland when we left, but the weather got better until about an hour inside Arizona. As we climbed to Flagstaff, the rain turned to snow and began to pick up. At the worst of it theres was the blowing snow and approximately 6 inches of it at the side of the road. We saw at least a dozen cars in the ditch, 2 upside down. We stopped for dinner in Flagstaff and decided to push on to Gallup. It turned out to be the right idea, because once we got past Flagstaff, the snow turned back into rain and then disappeared entirely.
Ben go sleep now.
