The hop across the pond was a better flight. It had booze and they weren't stingy with it. We flew on a brand new Boeing 777. It had personal entertainment screens in the back of the seat ahead of you. I watched two movies (completely different ones than Shannon) while sipping my red wine and thoroughly enjoyed myself
We arrived at Heathrow to the largest queue I have ever seen. However, they had fifty customs counters open and we were through in about half an hour. Tam & Rog met us at the airport and drove us to their flat in Putney. Their flat is quite nice. It is very small by North American standards, but for London it is pretty good. The part Shannon and I both noticed is that it is set up for day-to-day living. It has a small fridge and pantry with the expectation that you do your food shopping daily. And there are lots of local shops to make it possible.
After we got settled, the four of us walked the six blocks up to the Thames and went for a stroll along the bank. Shannon and Tam were quite impressed by the outfits (and the physiques) on the rowers as we passed the rowing club. Rog and I, not so much. After the walk, we drove to Richmond for another walk along the Thames and lunch at a pub [#1] (more on pubs later)
Tam prepared an excellent lasagna for dinner, which Shannon and I tried our best to stay awake for. After dinner we took the tube into London and walked around Trafalgar Square and Soho. Walking around Soho on a Saturday night is an experience (especially if you are slightly out of it - jet-lag Mom, don't worry). A little bit of everything was on display. We weren't buying, with the exception of a drink in a fancy pub [#2].
