Kompong Cham – Siem Reap
This morning we had the best bus ride ever. The bus left on time and even arrived a little bit early. It was also air conditioned. I know bus companies in developed nations that can’t do that. The company was called the GST Bus Company, so we finally got something good out of the GST (Canadian joke – and not even a good one).
We arrived in Siem Reap in the early afternoon and thought that since we have a few hours of daylight left, we’d see some temples. We went to three temples before Shannon let me stop for a beer. I think the temple : beer ratio should be 2:1, but she was excited, so she snuck an extra one in. The temples were everything you’d expect from an ancient Cambodian temple; they were falling down, had fantastic carvings and architecture, and were hidden in the jungle.
In the evening we watched the sun set over Angkor Wat from a temple on a mountain overlooking the city, and after dinner, we went shopping at the night market. I bought a traveling Buddha as a mascot for the rest of the trip.
