Asia Trip - Day 13

Bangkok

This morning we headed over to Khao San road to start our tour to the tiger temple. We got to the departure point early, so had a liesurely breakfast in the cafe across the way. As our 10am departure time went flying by, a girl from the travel agency put us in a taxi and took us over to the mini-bus depot, where she proceeded to buy us passage on a bus with a bunch of people not going where we wanted to go. The first stop on our "tour" was the bridge on the river Kwai (of movie fame). We met the rest of our tour there. They had been waiting for us for an hour so we only had a few minutes at the bridge. Then on to the tiger temple. Our first stop was the tiger canyon, where you got to pet a live tiger. For 1000B you get to have a tiger's head in your lap. There was one monk who was moving the tiger and he was none too gentle. After petting quite a few tigers, we headed up to the temple and then walked around the compound looking at the rest of the animals. They had peacocks, horses, buffalo, deer and lots of cats. I guess that they are techinally Siamese cats as they live in Siam, but they look like normal barn cats to me.

When we got back to Bangkok we made our own way to the dinner cruise. It was a lot of fun, there is a lot of cool stuff to see from the river. The food was good too. They have a fifty page menu, but not everything is available every night, so ordering is a challenge. The fried fish balls were really good.
